This position will provide product leadership and direction on Group Accident, Critical Illness and other medical gap products.  S/he will lead complex product development, management initiatives, and other projects related to these products.  S/he will act as a subject matter expert to contribute to the definition of product strategy, vision, value proposition, and product enhancements. The role will lead the market release of product enhancements and manage the product lifecycle to ensure group products/services are market competitive and meet customer needs.




  • Provides direction on complex assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capability of his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments / trends for assigned area(s) or responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.

Product Development

  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, provides leadership and direction to drive profitable and market-leading product development, implementation, and ongoing product life-cycle management activities
  • Develops the product vision & value proposition for Medical Gap products based on customer needs and input, market and competitive information
  • Provides subject matter expertise to contribute to the definition of the product strategy & road-map and enhancements for assigned products
  • Communicates product vision & strategies, develops appropriate business cases and obtains organizational buy-in and funding for development & on-going enhancements
  • Provides leadership and technical support related to product development activities and day-to-day inquiries & escalated issues from home office and field associates
  • Secures project resources and provides leadership to cross-functional areas to provide detailed business requirements & specifications for accurate product implementation & enhancements
  • Manages product-related vendor relationships to ensure effective & efficient service delivery; identifies and resolves escalated service issues
  • In collaboration with product marketing partners, field distribution, and training, leads the creation of effective product positioning, marketing, and product launch campaigns.
  • Reviews and evaluates marketing materials to ensure accuracy and consistency with objectives

Leadership/P&L Management

  • Provides direction and product expertise to internal business partners throughout the product life cycle
  • Plays a lead role in product promotion, marketing, training, and communication
  • Manages products to achieve product & business financial objectives; identifies, analyzes, and escalates issues; leads resolution with business partners
  • Collaborates with Pricing,  Distribution, Underwriting, Claims and other business partners to manage product & profit levers to ensure the products meet growth, revenue, expense, and profit expectations
  • Develops product-related training materials and participates in training presentations for internal & external clients

Market Trends and Information

  • Stays up-to-date on market & regulatory changes that impact the product line; collaborates with Legal and Compliance to ensure product offering remains compliant with complex legislation & regulatory changes
  • Leads the gathering, reviewing, and synthesizing competitive intelligence data to identify trends & opportunities; drives product initiatives to capitalize on them
  • Assesses the market and evolving environment frequently and stays up-to-date on industry trends and identifies new opportunities for innovation


  • Works with operations, actuarial, underwriting, and finance teams to manage product risk drivers, while ensuring continued market success
  • Proactively works with internal & external partners to enhance sales performance and meet growth, revenue, persistency, and profitability expectations
  • Collaborates with various internal & external partners to manage product profit levers & risks and enhance sales to ensure products meet growth, revenue, persistency, and profitability expectations
  • Works with operations, actuarial, underwriting, and finance teams to manage product risk drivers, while ensuring continued market success



  • 4 Year/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelors) (Minimum Required)
  • 5-7 years of experience in group insurance or employee benefits that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
