The Role at a Glance

We are looking to add a Portfolio Management Associate Director to the Commercial Mortgage and Real Estate Investments team.


As a senior member of the Portfolio Management team, you will play a meaningful role in managing and overseeing the performance of a $17 billion commercial mortgage loan portfolio. Your primary focus is monitoring loan performance and mitigating risk and limiting loss across the portfolio. The ideal candidate is looking to grow their responsibilities in commercial real estate underwriting and credit analysis.

What you'll be doing

Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Management
•Performs in-depth reviews of property operating statements and identifies positive and/or negative trends.
•Monitors complex loan structures and Borrower business plans reporting to senior management on a quarterly and/or ad hoc basis.
•Manages loan covenants and triggers working with internal and external partners ensuring compliance with loan documents
•Supports active management of troubled, watch, and surveillance loans on a monthly or quarterly basis.


Stakeholder Collaboration and Reporting
•Ensures data integrity at property and loan level for portfolio level analytics and reporting.
•Identifies and communicates process improvements to senior management.
•Serves as liaison partnering with the servicing and production teams to analyze underwriting related servicing requests, including but not limited to special servicing requests, lease approvals, collateral releases, substitutions, and sale and assumptions, and makes written and verbal approval recommendations to senior management.


Additional Responsibilities
•Maintains a high level of knowledge on market fundamentals such as rental rates, occupancy, capital market trends, and transaction activity for assigned geographic areas.
•Stays apprised of market related headlines affecting commercial real estate for reporting and analytics.
•Travels domestically for property inspections and conference events, as needed.
•May provide portfolio management support to real estate private equity team.
•Opportunities to collaborate across departments within the commercial real estate and overall investment team.

What we’re looking for

Must-have experience:
•4 Year/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor’s) – minimum required in Finance, Business Administration, or similar field.
•3-5+ years’ experience required in commercial real estate finance and /or commercial real estate investment and analysis that aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position. Prior commercial real estate asset/portfolio management preferred.
•Knowledge of commercial real estate principles and valuation methods.
•Knowledge of national commercial real estate markets and macro-economic trends that affect those markets.
•Ability to understand and evaluate real estate financial statements including operating statements, balance sheets, and rent rolls.
•Knowledge of real estate legal concepts and strong understanding of loan documents.
•Ability to understand and apply financial concepts including but not limited to discounting cash flows, capitalization rates, internal rate of returns, and return on investment.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
•Experience with CoStar and Argus preferred.
•Strong attention to detail and ability to clearly and effectively communicate, in writing and verbally, complex loan and property operational concepts to senior management
•Travel 10% (intermittent)
