The Role at a Glance

As the AVP, Strategic Planning, you will provide leadership, direction and functional expertise to develop the strategy for our Annuity business. Working closely with business stakeholders, you will synthesize insights, craft our long-term strategic plan, and inform near-term direction and goals, consistent with Lincoln Financial Group’s growth, financial & business objectives. You will build and leverage relationships across all functional areas to gather data, uncover insights, influence strategic direction, and drive alignment. In addition, you will be responsible for developing communications of that strategy, and our progress against it, for various internal and external stakeholders including our Board of Directors, executive management, analysts and rating agencies, and our own employees. Lastly, you will help drive strategic projects that inform and implement our strategic vision. 

What you'll be doing

•    Provides direction to build and enhance the Annuity strategy, working closely with cross-functional leaders to discuss, debate, and determine our vision for the future
•    Provide leadership and develops plans for the Annuity strategy deliverables to ensure successful execution
•    Influences strategic direction and communicates effectively with senior & executive leadership regarding emerging trends and competing priorities
•    Identifies & analyzes marketplace patterns that might be missed by others; considers organizational positioning, and leads team to capitalize on hidden opportunities in novel ways
•    Collaborates with key stakeholders to formulate, prioritize, and sequence strategic program deliverables
•    Coordinates input from leaders across their assigned business area to manage project portfolio and facilitate the integration & alignment of various projects with the overall business unit plan & strategy
•    Collaborates with senior management to identify & resolve potential project conflicts, overlaps & integrations points; enables successful delivery of outcomes
•    Creates and revises strategic plans & informal structures, builds allies & relationships across departments, and leverages allies to build consensus
•    Collaborates with peers & leadership across their assigned business area as well as external organizations to secure project resources and drive plan creation
•    Develops appropriate project measurements; monitors program/initiative progress and adherence to strategic intent
•    Conducts periodic reviews of achievements/performance vs. strategic plans and directs project team & sponsors to keep projects on track to achieve stated objectives
•    Regularly communicates project statuses to executive teams
•    Identifies, defines, evaluates & resolves problems by seeking win/win solutions when business unit & enterprise priorities conflict and understands reasoning behind corporate initiatives

What we’re looking for

•    4 Year Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of equivalent work experience
•    10+ Years of related experience in strategy, consulting, innovation, project management, or product development roles
•    Knowledge of the Annuity industry
•    Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations.
•    Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Ability to think critically, analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution.
•    Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.  
•    Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.  
•    Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines. 
•    Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding. 
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Pay Range: $120,600 - $195,100 


Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees.  In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual.  Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
