The Role at a Glance

As an AVP Actuary  in Core Life Product Development, you will play an integral role in leading the development and pricing of new individual life products, focusing on the Indexed Universal Life line of business.  In this role, you will be responsible for the design, modeling, and rate development for new products and work with our product analyst and implementations teams to ensure that the products function correctly on the LFG administrative systems.  You will also be managing a team of Actuarial Development Program participants.

What you'll be doing:

  • Designing and developing products to provide the targeted distribution and marketplace product offerings, while meeting LFG’s profit objectives
  • Collaborating with distribution and competitive intelligence to evaluate the competitive, regulatory and economic landscape and recommend actions to successfully compete in the assigned line of business
  • Supervising the building of actuarial models to price new products and to test various scenarios, sensitivities, and sales opportunities
  • Validating and communicating model assumptions, product mechanics and reserving/financial regulations to internal finance audiences
  • Working closely with Product Analysts and partners in State Filing to communicate product features and specifications
  • Collaborating with other actuarial and non-actuarial areas to share results and gather input on product development initiatives and presenting results to senior management for final approval
  • Overseeing the development and documentation of new business assumptions for the assigned line of business
  • Teaching and developing of actuarial skills and knowledge within Actuarial Development Program participants on pricing team 
  • Maintaining knowledge on current and emerging product development trends; communicating impacts to senior management and incorporating new trends and developments in current and future solutions

What we're looking for:


  • 10+ years of experience in product development or related actuarial activities that directly align with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation or Associate (ASA) with additional years of actuarial experience
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance and annuity mechanics and product strategies.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to articulate information in a way that can be interpreted and understood at various levels
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and propose solutions for a range of technical actuarial issues
  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize team and individual objectives, based on the enterprise’s vision, mission, values and goals
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend process improvements
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint


  • 2-4+ years management experience
  • Proficient with MG-ALFA or similar projection software systems
  • Other computer programming and software skills a plus
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of STAT and GAAP requirements.
