The Role at a Glance:

Lincoln Financial Group’s Life Inforce team supports millions of customers across the Life Insurance business. Data science plays a crucial role in this initiative by utilizing analytics to identify customer needs and trends and develop programs to promote persistency, understand customer behavior, and enhance the customer experience. 


We are looking for a Consultant, Actuarial Data Science who will use data mining, exploratory data analysis, inferential statistics, and predictive modeling techniques to deliver data-driven insights to internal stakeholders supporting Lincoln Financial Group’s Life Inforce business. The ideal candidate must have life insurance product and business knowledge and be comfortable working with and discovering hidden solutions within large and complex datasets. They must also be an excellent data storyteller, effectively communicating complex data insights to drive business results, and an exceptional partner to Actuarial teams throughout the organization.

What you'll be doing:

  • Partners with internal stakeholders, Actuaries, and team leaders to identify complex business problems that can be solved by data science and analytics, developing project plans, roadmaps, and guidance on best practices.
  • Uses data mining, exploratory data analysis, and statistical techniques to detect patterns, trends, and anomalies in data.
  • Implements predictive and/or explanatory modeling to understand the relationship between customer/policyholder behavior and business outcomes.
  • Creates visualizations and data storylines to share results and communicates actionable insights using data to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Identifies and implements solutions for automation opportunities and process efficiencies across data science and actuarial domains.
  • Researches and employs existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques.
  • Identifies potential security, legal, and ethical risks of data and works with manager and team leaders to mitigate those risks.

What we’re looking for:


  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum requirement) or master’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or equivalent degree
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in Data Science, Actuarial Science or similar relevant field that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • Experience with data engineering platforms such as Dataiku
  • Life product knowledge and general insurance/business knowledge
  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of data to extract insights and identify data anomalies
  • Experience creating and deploying advanced machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques: regression, clustering, tree-based models, A/B testing, and inferential statistics
  • Expertise in Python and SQL


  • Progress toward ASA designation, with exam PA-Predictive Analytics passed
