The Role at a Glance:

This position will serve as the go-to person for model reviews.  While this person would not be directly responsible performing all of the individual model reviews, all requests would come through this person and be divvyed appropriately, allowing us to keep detailed records of both outstanding and completed tasks, and create a consistency (as appropriate) between reviewers in process and documentation.  Additionally, this person will be critical in the production and reporting of Quarterly New Business profitability reporting and will be called upon to help complete other ad hoc requests as the need arises.   The person in this role will drive insights, deliver thoughtful feedback, and execute on required deliverables.

What you'll be doing:


  • Provide guidance and assistance in the implementation of assumptions into models.

Product Governance 

  • Actively engage in discussions with Pricing leads during the product development process.
  • Assist in the resolution of any objections raised during the approval process.
  • Attend Product Development workgroup meetings and Financial & Risk Reviews.
  • Accurately and concisely compile documentation related to product development process for future reference.

Model Review 

  • Develop a consistent and implementable framework for reviewing models, both Pricing and Valuation.
  • Manage the pipeline of model review requests to the broader team, their current status, and the documentation associated with each.
  • Actively work with Model Owners to develop Model Review Plans including dates and contingencies.
  • Build/enhance validation tools that will aid in the review process, keeping as much consistency between product lines as possible.
  • Communicate often and effectively with various model owners and teams, guiding towards resolution of outstanding issues.
  • Serve as the primary reviewer for the VUL line of business and the subject matter expert for model reviews more broadly.
  • Document both your own review as well as confirming the Model Owner’s review.
  • Provide feedback across models such that consistency is developed, or documentation of differences and why in absence of the consistency.
  • Maintain a critical eye on our processes, always looking for improvements that could lead to faster, more accurate results.

Quarterly Profitability Reporting 

  • Deliver results according to quarterly reporting deadlines with explanation of quarterly findings and any changes to full year projections.
  • Run models, review results, analyze and explain deviations of quarterly profitability from expected baseline and prior quarter.
  • Oversee the compilation of results from the various model runs, continually searching for opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee any updates needed to the current process, typically from new products or process enhancements, between quarterly runs.

What we’re looking for:


  • Strong technical skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Effective verbal and written communication 
  • FSA, or ASA near FSA; career ASA may be considered 
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience 


  • Positive attitude and team player 
  • Prior experience with actuarial modeling software, preferably MG-ALFA 
  • Product knowledge and general Life insurance/business knowledge
