The Role

As Legal Counsel, you will provide general legal advice to the Lincoln Financial Group Mortgage Loan and Real Estate team which originates and services commercial mortgage loans and real estate investments for the general account. You will provide legal support, legal project management and guidance for corporate facilities and business line agency leases.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal support in the review, negotiation, and documentation of commercial mortgage loan origination, servicing, work-outs and foreclosures.
  • Provides legal support in the review, negotiation and documentation of real estate related corporate facilities matters.
  • Provides legal support in the review, negotiation and documentation of the leasing activities for all business line units nationally.
  • Directs outside counsel on various legal matters.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides direction on complex assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capability of his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Education

  • Undergraduate Degree
  • J.D from ABA-accredited law school
  • Current License to practice law

Experience

  • Preferred experience advising on commercial real estate transactions, which could include financing, leasing, servicing, workouts or foreclosures
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively with team members and with business leaders at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Sophisticated understanding of commercial real estate or commercial real estate financing concepts, knowledge of key industry trends and excellent business acumen.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently read and interpret legal documents such as notes, mortgages and leases.
  • Ability to efficiently read and interpret statutes, regulations and other legal authorities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from diverse audiences including consultants, senior leadership and other stakeholders
  • Ability to apply applicable law to and draw appropriate conclusions from established facts
  • Ability to gauge the level of detail appropriate for different audiences
  • Ability to gather facts from various sources and take initiative to get information that is not provided
  • Possesses and demonstrates qualities such as integrity, professionalism, leadership, judgment, initiative, follow-through, strong work ethic, reliability, strategic thinking, ability to execute flawlessly, ability to work independently, relationship skills, team player and respectful of others
  • Ability to understand strategic vision of senior legal and business leaders and to align actions and execute accordingly

  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
