The Role


The position will provide leadership and direction to ensure group results for all areas of Distributed Database Services. This includes managing database utilities, monitoring the relationships between the database users and applications, and managing processes around archiving, purging, retention and recovery.




  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the department for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Directs and evaluates individual/team performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Establishes and implements priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure group results for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Directs and provides leadership to continually improve the capability and results for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Builds organizational capability within his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Directs technology assets & team resources to ensure project, operational, performance, reliability, & availability objectives are met.
  • Ensures required routine & annual maintenance activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Participates in Annual Planning processes to define & manage upcoming work by providing estimates of resources requirements, negotiating with
  • Application Development partners & aligning resources to meet overall project needs.
  • Develop & implement appropriate Data Operations, Data Solutions, Data Security & Data Delivery staffing models (employees, onshore contractors, &
  • offshore contractors) to meet the operational coverage, skillset & financial requirements of the organization.
  • Defines & directs the implementation of Data Management strategies to address just in time data delivery, performance & scalability requirements, data security controls, data life-cycle management, tiered data delivery approaches, & technology roadmaps.
  • Manage the Budget, Expense Management, Invoice Processing and Capital Acquisition processes within the area to meet or exceed annual budget expectations and contribute to overall IT Infrastructure expense reduction goals.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with primary Application Development partners to ensure successful delivery of projects, continuous improvement of processes, and improved levels of service.
  • Defines and directs implementation of Data Management procedures and policies to reduce operational risk, improve the reliability of the environment, and comply with various Audit and Regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and executes appropriate plans to address IT Debt and Audit findings in a timely manner to reduce the overall IT risk profile.




  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)




  • 3 - 5+ Years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience (Required)
  • 7+ Years of experience in server-based database administration (Required)
  • Strong technical background in MS SQL Server
  • Demonstrated People Management experience
  • Solid understanding of ITIL fundamentals, change mgmt., availability etc.
  • ServiceNow experience (preferred)
  • Oracle Database experience (preferred)
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend processes improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully hire, retain, develop and coach staff via a culture of real-time performance feedback, with ability to build both
  • technical and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop
  • creative and collaborative approaches.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.
  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive
  • environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
