The Role

As the Senior Consumer Market Insights Consultant, you will serve as the subject matter expert and will be responsible for educating internal partners on important consumer trends and show the value of consumer data on all phases of business growth and strategy, including anticipating business opportunities and forecasting key trends, improving market performance, informing product development and guiding distribution, marketing and service evolution.  You will design and manage research on consumers and customers in support of Lincoln’s Corporate Strategy and Innovation team, and Life and Annuity Business Units. You will lead initiatives focused on measuring and improving customers’ experiences. You will also analyze diverse industry data sets to provide a thorough quantitative understanding of consumer needs and behaviors related to the insurance purchase process. When coupled with qualitative insights, you will translate research and analysis into actionable information and knowledge to impact the strategic direction of Lincoln’s Life and Annuity Business Units.

Responsibilities

Influence

  • Identifies, advises and directs internal stakeholders on business issues and objectives based on a current understanding of consumers, customers, competitors and the marketplace
  • Activates research findings and insights within business lines by consulting on the impact and implications on business decisions
  • Advises internal stakeholders on the research agenda for assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on cross-functional project teams who synthesizes data, interprets findings and presents well thought-out solutions/recommendations to drive business results
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, working on cross functional teams within the lines of business and/or enterprise on key initiatives & projects
  • Develops and delivers research findings leveraging data storytelling and data visualization best practices to effectively communicate research implications and impact to project teams and senior management

Collaboration

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders (e.g. Strategy Planning, Innovation, Customer Experence, Product, Operations, Sales and Marketing) and other internal/external partners to identify and communicate consumer trends
  • Effectively communicates information to the right audiences at the right time, efficiently matching the message to the audience needs.
  • Directs and shares technical knowledge with team members to identify and develop research plans, instruments, data analysis, market segmentation and forecasts.
  • Builds scalable, actionable tools that enhance Lincoln’s ability to differentiate itself in the marketplace and drive growth through understanding and leveraging demographic, psychographic and attitudinal data.

Execution

  • Builds a strong understanding of the strategic challenges facing assigned business partners and translates those into business questions
  • Builds deep expertise on various sources of internal/external consumer information and data sources, especially pertaining to elements and characteristics relevant to consumer attitudes, behavior, financial decision-making and product preferences
  • Leads the development and ongoing maintenance of Voice of the Customer programs
  • Advises internal stakeholders on identified trends and provides actionable direction/recommendations to business and marketing projects.

Consumer Insights

  • Explores multifaceted methodology options, leveraging primary research, syndicated research and secondary data to derive actionable consumer insights
  • Proactively pursues innovative & cost-effective solutions that informs business plans, product design, consumer experiences and marketing programs
  • Designs and directs research plans from Request-For-Proposal (RFP) to final report and presentation.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes consumer data to provide an understanding of consumer needs, attitudes, behaviors, financial service decision- making and product preferences.
  • Designs and applies thorough testing and quality controls throughout all project phases for assigned area(s) of responsibility.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in the social sciences (psychology, economics, political science, sociology, etc.) or statistics, or 8+ years of comparable work experience required

Experience

  • Strong understanding of life insurance/annuity sales, underwriting, and service processes
  • 5-7+ years of experience in Market Research of Financial Services and/or Life Insurance
  • Approaches work with a high level of curiosity and inquisitiveness
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions

Drives performance targets to completion.
