We are excited to bring on a VP, Corporate Development to our newly expanding Chief Strategy Office.  In this role, you will influence strategy, analyze opportunities, develop potential strategic investments, and integrate Lincoln with industry innovators to help build the business of tomorrow.  Lincoln is committed to investing in the talent, systems, and processes to make this happen.

 

This position will provide subject matter expertise and direction to achieve Lincoln’s long-range goals, reporting to the Head of Corporate Development.  They will produce and oversee comprehensive analyses, strategic recommendations, industry partnerships, and specialized expertise to executive/senior leadership.

 

*This position is hybrid home which means coming into the office is flexible and based on business needs. 

What you'll be doing:

  • Influence the development and planning of strategies to meet organization's long-range goals, including new business opportunities, equity investments and strategic business alliances.
  • Act as a primary business partner for external stakeholders, building strategic relationships and being an integrator between Lincoln and the industry.
  • Develop systems and accountability to capture and measure strategic value through industry partnerships.
  • Identify, research, align, and deliver new business opportunities that are outside of Lincoln’s current core focus.
  • Lead proposal development, feasibility studies, comparative analyses, due diligence, and negotiations for new business opportunities, partnerships, ventures, etc.
  • Build credibility and establish effective relationships throughout the organization, both at the corporate level and within the business units as a thought leader on internal & external innovation.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with senior & executive leaders, maximizing & optimizing matrixed resources, including intellectual property.
  • Provide thought leadership and functional expertise on corporate development approaches and practices.
  • Lead, establish, and implement priorities, performance goals and objectives to achieve key business results for their assigned area(s).
  • Guide and evaluate departmental performance and take appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s).
  • Lead and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provide highly specialized expertise and thought leadership to internal/external stakeholders for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Contribute to business unit/operational and enterprise strategy creation for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Build organizational capability within their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Lead/execute approved strategy for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensure top talent is hired and retained for their assigned area(s).
  • Provide training & development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest & open feedback to aid in talent development.

What we are looking for:

Must-haves:

  • 12+ years of business management/consulting, strategic/corporate planning, venture capital and/or merger & acquisition experience
  • 5+ years of management, strategy, and influencing senior/executive stakeholders
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Sound knowledge of insurance, investment, and enterprise risks
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic initiatives and plans which have benefited a company’s top and bottom lines
  • Deep understanding of insurance and financial industry specific accounting, finance, shared service, and information technology processes
  • Demonstrated excellent relationship management skills with internal and external clients (i.e. executive management, peers, and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches to driving client-focused solutions

Nice-to-haves:

  • MBA degree or advanced degree a plus
  • FSA designation or ASA designation a plus
  • Other advanced designations a plus – CFA, CERA, FRM
  • Demonstrated connections and relationships with industry innovators and/or investors preferred
