The Role

This position will provide leadership and direction on strategic actuarial projects/initiatives for his/her assigned area(s). S/he will provide functional expertise to workstreams & leaders on developing and refining plans to support actuarial business goals & objectives. S/he will also lead the development of a governance framework to facilitate effective implementation of initiatives and continuous monitoring on progress and opportunities for improvement.



  • Collaborate with business unit and corporate stakeholders to develop vision for future of actuarial modeling organization
  • Evaluates actuarial systems / platforms and their use in day-to-day processes; provides recommendations to senior leadership and drives long-term vision for use of a single or preferred set of platforms.
  • Identifies and evaluates potential strategic improvement opportunities, conducts cost-benefit analysis, and develops roadmap for execution.
  • Provides strategic direction to a project team and stakeholders; organizes and leads meetings to define requisite reporting and develop effective methods to collect status of identified deliverables.
  • Advises on strategic prioritization and operational change management for all aspects of initiatives, ensures leaders have the appropriate tools to successfully implement new business structures/processes.
  • Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides strategic direction to build and enhance the capability for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.


  • Leads the implementation of strategic actuarial projects/initiatives, including the coordination of planning, resources, change management, and communications to ensure execution supports business goals/objectives.
  • Partners with Service Management Lead to define a governance framework that assigns and reinforces roles & accountability for continuous monitoring and improvements to initiatives; collaborates with leadership to facilitate adoption.
  • Drives initiative/transition timelines, manages logistics of knowledge transfer, and holds stakeholders accountable for assigned deliverables.
  • Partners with senior management / leadership to assign accountability for project/initiative deliverables
  • Proactively identifies issues/conflicts that may impede execution; engages leadership and other stakeholders to evaluate issues, drive resolution, and enable successful outcomes
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments / trends for assigned area(s) or responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to project team, other stakeholders, and management on best practice standards to ensure consistent documentation / methodology throughout initiative/transition.
  • Leads reviews of achievements vs. planning; regularly reports progress to Actuarial leadership.

Change Management

  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility
  • Collaborate with business unit and corporate stakeholders to define long-term organization structure, incorporating various business & environmental changes related to regulatory requirements, efficiency targets, and other potential impacts to business needs. 


  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative major or 4 years equivalent work experience in lieu of Bachelor’s
  • FSA Preferred


  • 10+ years of actuarial experience directly related to the specific responsibilities of this position
  • Previous project/ transformation experience with an eye for continuous improvement opportunities, is preferred
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.
  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
  • Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong understanding of actuarial activities and day-to-day processes / systems
  • Out-going communicator that builds and maintains cross-functional relationships. Comfortable with asking detailed questions and challenging accepted practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how deliverables / systems fit into the bigger picture. Ensure transformation opportunities fit into the end state vision
  • Able to work through obstacles & pushback from stakeholders
  • Able to work with multiple parties including internal stakeholders, IT, and external consultants #LI-CG1
