The Role at a Glance:

In this position you will support advanced pricing and risk analytics for index annuities and traditional variable annuities.  You will design/ develop innovative modeling solutions to determine key drivers and assess impacts to profitability and risk metrics for deeper insights.  You will communicate results to stakeholders and serve as an expert and key resource for the team.  You will seek to elevate analytics bench strength, drive efficiency, and minimize model risk through continuous improvement in our infrastructure and processes.  You will be involved in various analyses relating to changes in investment options, hedging strategies, regulatory/ accounting requirements, various assumptions, and more.  This position offers high visibility to management, with opportunities to present up to the SVP level and collaborate across Annuities and beyond.

What you'll be doing:

  • Advance modeling infrastructure in projecting annuity product earnings stochastically, with more robust reflection of evolving hedge strategy and capital management.
  • Analyze risk management strategies, such as hedging and reinsurance, and their impact on product risk and profitability.  
  • Evaluate potential changes in investment options, risk managed fund strategies, regulatory requirements, and hedging strategies.
  • Design and implement customized modeling solutions as needed to support analysis of complex actuarial issues and strategic initiatives.
  • Advance modeling capabilities to drive competitive advantage consistent with enterprise long-term strategy.
  • Evaluate the impact of changes in GAAP and Stat reserving and capital standards on product design and profitability.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in our pricing models, capital market and actuarial assumptions, and advise stakeholders on complex projects.
  • Proactively identify and drive enhancements to the annuity pricing infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Corporate on model governance and other modeling initiatives.
  • Perform pricing analysis using vendor or internally developed software, analyze the results for new/redesigned annuity contract and rider benefits, and provide consultation on actuarial models and risk issues.
  • Recommend appropriate assumptions and innovative modeling approach for new product features.  
  • Update and maintain the logic, functionality, and assumptions of multiple pricing models, mitigating model risk by developing and following best practices.
  • Represent Annuity pricing in cross-functional risk management initiatives, and lead ad hoc projects as assigned.
  • Recommend resource prioritization by evaluating cost benefit trade-offs holistically.

What we're looking for:

Must-have:

  • 8+ years of actuarial experience (typically FSA designation)
  • Substantial experience with annuity products and actuarial modeling
  • Strong understanding of regulatory/accounting/capital frameworks (STAT/GAAP/Tax, RBC, EC)
  • Understanding of capital markets and financial instruments (assets and derivatives) that support annuities
  • Solid communication skills, and works well across teams

Nice-to-haves:

  • Competency with R, Python, SQL, Excel VBA, Tableau
  • Experience in advanced modeling/ analytics, financial engineering and market risk analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement processes improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to promote continuous improvement practices and collaborations across teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development
