The Role at a Glance:

As the Compliance Director you will provide leadership and direction to ensure group results for Lincoln's Life New Business Compliance team. You will direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of your assigned complex compliance plans/programs.  In this role you will also provide subject matter expertise and ongoing monitoring of assigned compliance program effectiveness.

What you'll be doing:

  • Directing a group and compliance activities including the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex compliance plans and programs.
  • Identifying and prioritizing complex compliance needs/risks in collaboration with business stakeholders and management.
  • Developing and directing, in collaboration with management and internal/external stakeholders, the ongoing review of compliance solutions, policies, procedures, and controls necessary or appropriate to satisfy internal controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Directing the proactive complex investigation, analysis, and documentation of areas of possible regulatory concern.
  • Directing and managing the response to regulatory inquiries and internal/external audit inquiries.
  • Developing and ensuring group uses a consistent approach to compliance reviews, issues, and/or concerns to determine similar solutions within appropriate risk levels to minimize the enterprise’s exposure.
  • Leading the preparing, updating, and/or filing of applicable compliance reports/forms/contracts.
  • Directing ongoing assessments of compliance program effectiveness to ensure that it fully meets its obligations of general and specific compliance risks.
  • Serving as a compliance subject matter expert and partnering with management and/or business stakeholders on a broad variety of compliance matters/issues.
  • Fostering and ensuring effective and open communication with internal/external stakeholders and assigned area(s) of responsibility to ensure transparency and consistency of compliance actions.
  • Monitoring an ever changing regulatory environment to proactively partner with management to develop and implement complex new procedures and policies, in an effort to reduce enterprise risk.
  • Directing, leading, and/or participating in complex compliance projects.
  • Managing and overseeing the budget for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • May develop the budget for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • May serve in a compliance advisory and/or coordination capacity on various standing committees for the enterprise.
  • May certify to senior management that process and procedures are in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements pertaining to general compliance issues.

What we're looking for:

Must-haves:

  • 7+ Years of experience in compliance that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret both internal and external documents such as general media/publications, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.
  • Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed, and logical discussions/presentations.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment; Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
  • Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among senior management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend processes improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully hire, retain, develop, and coach staff via a culture of real-time performance feedback, with ability to build both technical and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
