The Role at a Glance

As a Senior Associate Actuary, Group Assumptions and Reserve Strategy, you will own the design, monitoring, development, and Senior Management communications for key reserve assumptions on Group Long Term Disability, Group Short Term Disability and Group Life products. 

What you'll be doing

  • Responsible for driving GAAP, Stat and Tax reserve assumption development for GP product lines, collaborating with key stakeholders within Finance and communicating with stakeholders outside of Finance.
  • Will organize and lead recommendation communications with direct and Senior Management as well as Corporate ERM.
  • Includes assessment of experience, source of earnings analysis, reserve adequacy, and forward-looking drivers to develop reserve assumption update recommendations as needed, including communication of experience trends and drivers to Management.
  • Provides leadership that supports the Corporate Actuarial Assumption Governance process.
  • Leads the development of a recurring reserve adequacy Dashboard, integrating retrospective and prospective margin analysis results (current period, YoY, model roll-forward), including communication with senior leadership.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration with Pricing in determining pricing reserve assumptions.
  • Partner with our data analytics team to create best-in-class experience history and models to support assumption setting.
  • Use modern data techniques (Python, SQL, Hadoop and AWS) to efficiently analyze and model historical experience.
  • Identify and direct the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and GP related to assumptions and underlying experience monitoring.

  • Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Direct and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provide direction on complex assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capability of their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Direct, develops and/or runs complex actuarial models and analysis for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Leads actuarial projects and proactively identifies challenges and resolutions.
  • Organizes findings in a clear, systematic fashion and presents actuarial recommendations to various levels of management and other stakeholders.
  • Provides expertise on actuarial models and assumption development and suggests new ways of managing risk.
  • Maintains awareness of developments in the actuarial industry.
  • Performs other duties as required.

What we're looking for

Must Haves

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative major 
  • 4 – 7+ years of experience in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position 
  • FSA designation or ASA designation with additional years experience
