The Role at a Glance:

The AVP, Competitive Intelligence will hold primary responsibility for the strategic direction and implementation of all competitive intelligence activities in their area of responsibility. The role will lead a team in gaining comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of insurance market sub-segments, including product changes, marketing programs, distribution strategy, etc. This role will engage with a broad network of industry-wide contacts to gain advance knowledge of industry activity to recognize, interpret, and advise on trends.

What you'll be doing:

  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives.
  • Identifies and directs strategic process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit.
  • Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation.
  • Provides strategic leadership and vision around innovative approaches to gather, maintain, disseminate and effectively leverage competitive information.
  • Leads a team to conduct extensive research and develop full knowledge of key complex products/issues both within Lincoln and across the industry.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to team to recognize trends in competitor actions and interpret competitors’ motives and strategies.
  • Develops strategic recommendations and contributes thought leadership to drive actions (product development, business development, market participation) that advance Lincoln’s overarching strategy and business goals.
  • Develops strong relationships with internal stakeholders to fully understand and support Lincoln’s positioning in the marketplace.
  • Communicates and presents critical information regarding competitive intelligence and marketplace activity to senior leadership and key stakeholders throughout the organization to facilitate strategic conversations and decisions.
  • Directs the effective implementation, integration and execution of strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains a robust network of external contacts and resources for information gathering.
  • Ensures team meets all objectives pertaining to quality, compliance, regulations, productivity, customer service, budget and project management.
  • Maintains effective internal operational controls for their area of responsibility to ensure accuracy of reported results.
  • Fosters a culture of open dialogue on workplace issues with the team to maintain high morale.
  • Determines team alignment based on product lines.
  • Establishes and monitors policies, programs and methods and ensures standards are maintained.
  • Provides coaching to team members and other internal stakeholders.
  • Effectively organizes work and processes for team including: workflow patterns, performance standards, delineation of duties/responsibilities, suitable staffing, appropriate supervision, and systems to ensure timely communication of information.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant regulatory and legislative environment to ensure new developments are incorporated and addressed in future strategies.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained. 
  • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.  Complies with all company and site policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.



What we're looking for:


  • 10+ Years of experience in insurance management and/or competitive analysis 
  • 3 - 5+ Years managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) 
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed, and logical discussions/presentations.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents.
  • Confident, comfortable communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Write and edit business reports and correspondence, product analysis, marketing material and web content. 
  • Ability to think critically, analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution.
  • Ability to evaluate trends in data or information. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement processes improvements.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficient with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge and experience with HTML/XML web administration and web posting and email marketing tools.
  • Knowledge of Life Insurance illustration systems, both administering and using as a bench marketing tool.
