The Role at a Glance
The AVP & Actuary, Annuity New Business Data Analytics & Assumptions will manage an actuarial team with three direct reports, providing technical leadership for two responsibilities within Annuity new business work: data analytics and assumptions. For data analytics, you will lead your team to assemble, visualize, and make predictions on relevant data from AnnuityHQ and other systems to influence actuarial decisions, including pricing and ratesetting, within Annuity Solutions. For assumptions, you will oversee the appropriate development of assumptions specific to new business and coordinate and document all assumptions used in new business models. For both responsibilities, you will work closely with an array of other actuarial and data teams inside and outside Annuity.
What you'll be doing
•Collaborate closely with the pricing and ratesetting teams within Annuity Solutions to understand their processes and decisions and propose how appropriate application of data analytics and assumption development may positively influence decision-making
•Design, help develop, and oversee the implementation and maintenance of daily data feeds in Dataiku using AnnuityHQ, AWD, SalesIQ, and other sources, with an emphasis on data governance, including that it be appropriate for the purpose, clearly documented, and an efficient use of resources
•Envision, help develop, and oversee the implementation and maintenance of coherent, automatically updated data visualizations via Tableau that decision-makers and management regularly and confidently uses, with and without guidance, to uncover new insights into Annuity new business
•Apply predictive modeling when applicable to decision-making to create trusted, well-maintained predictions on emerging data, including model structure and feature generation based on business context, that others can understand, accept, and use
•Collaborate with the experience studies and assumption governance teams to monitor and influence both their regular and project work, involving the pricing team as appropriate and documenting the usage of Annuity assumptions developed elsewhere
•Lead assumption development for non-market inputs specific to new business, such as sales demographics, working with internal partners to determine appropriate timelines and granularity for model implementation and emphasizing the appropriateness of the assumptions, clear documentation, and efficient processing and transmission
•Set up and be responsible for new business assumption monitoring, watching emerging experience on key assumptions for newer products compared to thresholds specified by the pricing actuaries
•Partner with additional teams, including but not limited to Annuity Product, LFD, Annuity Finance, RetailIQ, and Operations Reporting, to deepen business knowledge, enrich data connections, and built mutual excellence and trust
•Communicate concisely and clearly through a variety of media on how the work of the team applies to specific actuarial decisions, engaging in constructive dialogue to influence the decision being made
•Manage a team of three direct reports with potential for team growth, creating a work environment conducive to effective actuarial work and personal career growth
•Be an authentic, independent voice in the more general affairs of the Annuity department, applying expertise, curiosity, and humility in discussing the broader strategy of the Annuity business
