The Role at a Glance:

As an AVP Actuary, you will play an integral role as the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) representative for Life operations related to all product, risk, and assumptions matters.  The focus of this group is to deliver insightful, value-add, actionable risk analytics and governance to drive business results.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for oversight of Life product development and pricing, assumptions risk and governance, and expanding enterprise framework capabilities. This position will provide Life subject matter expertise and support strategic projects/initiatives within the Chief Risk Office, reporting to the VP, Corporate Actuary and Head of ERM Product Risk.  

 

This role offers a unique combination of experience in corporate actuarial oversight, ERM product risk, and strategic business partnership at an exciting time in the newly expanding Chief Risk Office.

What you'll be doing:

Pricing, Product, and Risk Analysis

  • Assist in the review of new product strategies, development, design, pricing, and implementation.
  • Evaluate the impact of the potential product design changes on the reserve and/or capital requirement, profitability, and tail risks.
  • Leverage risk metrics and analytics to influence strategy such as potential ALM, investing activities, and management actions
  • Lead assumptions oversight for Life operations, including assumption development, modeling, annual updates, and risk assessments
  • Partner on strategic reinsurance opportunities and analysis
  • Support the development of risk/return pricing standards and risk management methodologies based on actuarial and capital markets/economic principles

 

Business Management

  • Establish effective working relationships throughout the organization, both at the corporate level and within the Life business.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on all Life product lines in terms of product knowledge, risk profiles, modeling approach, and reserve requirements
  • Monitor and analyze developments in actuarial techniques, laws, and regulations applicable to Life operations, and competitive developments in the marketplace.
  • Implement process improvements, consistency, governance, controls, and oversight.
  • Research and prepare briefings on status of key projects and initiatives to senior leaders.

 

Special Projects

  • Participate in ad hoc projects related to product development, implementation, inforce management, and corporate risk management initiatives. 
  • Assist in the buildout of Lincoln Financials’ risk appetite framework for new business.
  • Support the advancement of financial metrics and dashboards for use in strategic planning.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial science
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation or Associate (ASA) with additional years of actuarial experience
  • Other advanced designations a plus – CFA, CERA, FRM
  • Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance mechanics and product strategies
  • Ability to effectively communicate information at various levels inside the organization
  • Proven ability to analyze and propose solutions for a range of technical actuarial issues
  • Strong project management skills, including critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment with occasionally changing priorities
  • Comfort working with and communicating across various teams and levels of seniority, including effective challenge and independent thinking 
  • Curiosity, comfort asking questions and challenging the status quo
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of STAT and GAAP requirements
  • Proficiency with programming, data visualization software, and actuarial systems a plus
