The Role at a Glance

This position will support advanced pricing and risk analytics for index annuities (variable and fixed), and traditional variable annuities with guarantees.  You will design and oversee implementation of innovative modeling solutions to determine key drivers and assess impacts to profitability and risk metrics for deeper insights.  You will communicate results to stakeholders, serve as a subject matter expert and provide thought leadership.  You will elevate analytics bench strength, drive efficiency, and minimize model risk through continuous improvement in our infrastructure and processes.  You will lead analyses relating to changes in investment options, hedging strategies, regulatory/ accounting requirements, various assumptions, and more.  This position offers high visibility to senior management, collaborating across Annuities and well beyond.

What you'll be doing

  • Advance modeling infrastructure in projecting annuity product earnings stochastically, with more robust reflection of evolving hedge strategy and capital management
  • Analyze risk management strategies, such as hedging and reinsurance, and their impact on product risk and profitability. 
  • Lead R&D and analysis of new/ upgraded investment options, e.g., custom indices and index account payoffs/ crediting rate strategies, risk managed funds.
  • Partner with Market Risk Management (Corporate hedging team) to advance hedge strategies.
  • Design and implement customized modeling solutions to analyze complex actuarial issues and strategic initiatives
  • Advance modeling capabilities by utilizing / championing leading edge data analytics platforms to build customized tools, e.g. Dataiku, Tableau, Python
  • Develop subject matter expertise in our pricing models, capital market and actuarial assumptions, and advise stakeholders on modeling and risk issues
  • Provide thought leadership and insights on Distributable Earnings impact from product changes, regulatory changes, and different capital standards
  • Lead Assumption Governance and modeling solutions for new business
  • Partner across functional areas to support actuarial software conversion to AXIS
  • Proactively identify opportunities and implement enhancements to the annuity pricing infrastructure that significantly reduce workloads, improve runtime or reduce model risks
  • Advance and maintain computing resources for Annuity Solutions, partnering with IT and supporting model users, e.g., onboarding hardware, supporting High Performance Computing grid, and troubleshooting.
  • Drive competitive advantage consistent with enterprise long-term strategy of increasing distributable earnings and diversifying sources of earnings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and leverage industrial trends to provide comprehensive and holistic guidance on risk management strategies and modeling innovations.
  • Recommend resource prioritization by evaluating cost benefit trade-offs strategically.
  • Lead, manage and develop team members, and influence key business partners to think strategically and execute on assigned projects efficiently and effectively.

What we’re looking for

Must-have

  • 12+ years of actuarial experience (typically FSA designation)
  • Significant experience with annuity products and actuarial modeling
  • Strong understanding of regulatory/accounting/capital frameworks (STAT/GAAP/Tax, RBC, EC)
  • Solid foundation of capital markets and financial instruments (assets and derivatives) that support annuities
  • Demonstrated success in providing strategic and holistic thought leadership
  • Demonstrated success in balancing and pivoting across projects with shifting priorities
  • Strong relationship management skills across functional areas, including senior management and peers
  • Experience in managing and developing actuarial/ risk management professionals 

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in advanced modeling/ analytics, financial engineering and market risk analysis
  • Competency with R, Python, SQL, Excel VBA, Tableau
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement processes improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote continuous improvement practices and collaborations

Pay Range: $138,001 - $251,200 

 

Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees.  In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual.  Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
