The Role


As the AVP, Director of Relationship Management, you will provide leadership, direction and functional expertise to ensure RPS (Retirement Plan Services)departmental results for assigned area(s) of responsibility. You will strategically develop and direct, maintain and execute complex and robust client relationship management programs/plans which ensure that the clients’ overall service needs are satisfied.  You will also direct and motivate assigned team(s) and set strategic priorities and activities within the region which will lead to an increase in sales revenue and market share within assigned area of responsibility.




  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Directs, establishes and implements priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure departmental results for assigned area(s)
  • Directs and evaluates departmental performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards
  • Provides strategic leadership and direction to continually improve the capability and results for assigned area(s)
  • Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation for assigned area(s)
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained
  • Builds organizational capability within assigned area(s)
  • Directs a group and the complex relationship management activities including:
  • strategically developing, maintaining, and executing complex and robust client relationship mgmt programs/plans which ensure that internal/external clients’ overall service needs are satisfied & achieve the business, retention and profitability objectives
  • Anticipates and provides relationship management/sales strategies and solutions to complex problems or trends
  • Services as a subject matter expert and advises management and internal stakeholders on relationship management strategies which optimize client satisfaction and achieve desired business results and reduce risks
  • Directs and oversees the management of assigned relationships with existing clients by developing, executing and ensuring strategic, proactive, creative, and ongoing contact initiatives
  • Contribute to developing sales strategies which have substantial impact on sales revenue and increase in market share within the appropriate channel
  • Develops, implements and oversees the execution of strategic sales and business plans for assigned region
  • Develops, adheres, and oversees financial budgets for assigned region
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight on assigned team(s) sales goals and objectives.
  • Develops and maintains sales programs with clients within assigned region
  • Develops and manages the budget for assigned area(s)


Relationship Management

  • Builds, enhances and maintains relationships with key and/or senior contacts at client organizations, ensuring clients’ overall service needs are satisfied
  • Collaborates with key internal stakeholders and senior management to identify synergist/cross selling opportunities within the Lincoln Financial Group business portfolio
  • Partners closely with internal stakeholders to align sales efforts with partner firm/institution strategies


Business Acumen

  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies
  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives
  • Identifies and directs strategic process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit
  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects

Travel 50% domestically



  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
  • FINRA S6, S63 life and health



  • 10+ Years’ experience in relationship management that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience including influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience
  • Proven strong retirement plan working knowledge
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Apply concepts such as probability, statistics, modeling, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions
  • Works with mathematical concepts such as averages and/or variances
  • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
