The ADP Program Overview


The Actuarial Development Program (ADP) at Lincoln Financial Group is an industry-leading program that demonstrates Lincoln Financial’ s commitment to creating highly qualified business leaders.  As an ADP participant, you’ll be able to explore your unique interests while developing the essential actuarial, technical, management, communication, and leadership skills you need to succeed. The Actuarial Development Program includes a series of rotations, typically every 18-24 months. For each rotation, roles are available in different business areas including Life and Annuities, Retirement and Group Protection. Experience gained will enable participants to become well-rounded actuaries with knowledge that may include Product Development, Pricing, Valuation, Modeling, Risk Management, Asset Liability Management, Investments, Data Analytics, and Internal Audit.

 

ADP participants are expected to pass the Society of Actuaries’ exams at a prescribed pace. The program is designed to support you as you work towards your FSA and provide the training and resources necessary to become a well-rounded actuarial leader.

As a part of Corporate Finance, the Appointed Actuary team focuses on key regulatory exercises such as Asset Adequacy Testing, C-3 Phase I, X-Factor reports, Preferred Mortality reports, ALM, PBR, Annual Statement preparations, regulatory compliance, and special projects for all lines of business. The position is responsible for maintaining and updating the annual documentation required by regulators and ensuring compliance with actuarial standards. This role offers a broad, enterprise-wide perspective, with exposure to all product lines across the company. It provides a unique opportunity to analyze the financial dynamics of the entire business portfolio. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves frequent interaction with teams across the organization. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a cross-functional environment. A willingness to increase understanding of the Bermuda regulatory framework is desired, as Lincoln has recently entered the market. The team will be on the front line of emerging issues as it supports regulatory requests, risk management analytics, potential deal activities (M&A, reinsurance, etc.), and additional ad-hoc initiatives. 

The team has the goal of building collaborative relationships across the organization as it aids in regulatory compliance and risk management oversight. The team has the pleasure of working with all business units across all actuarial functions, as well as additional departments such as Investments, Legal, Stat Reporting, ERM and MRM. This position offers an exciting opportunity to learn about the company from a different perspective while expanding business knowledge and growing as an actuary in the organization.

What you'll be doing

•Maintain annual Asset Adequacy Testing, X-Factor, Preferred Mortality, and C 3 Phase I Memorandums, including updates to results and refinements to product descriptions and emerging regulatory changes
•Prepare state-specific regulatory reports, such as ad-hoc reporting requirements provided to California and New York
•Coordinate model projection results and assumption updates from various cross-functional teams to support financial reporting metrics 
•Develop tools to improve cash flow analysis used for financial reporting, emerging issues, potential block deals, asset transactions, and market movements
•Perform annual development and validation of asset reinvestment assumptions and discount factors used in Asset Adequacy Analysis
•Generate asset cash flow files and assumption tables used in actuarial models
•Support Appointed Actuary team in key initiatives and projects, including analysis of emerging regulations, potential strategic transactions, and asset and capital allocation
•Develop familiarity with the Bermuda regulatory framework and requirements
•Collaborate with team members and peers across department functions to assist with problem solving and sharing ideas
•Potential to manage a summer intern by providing guidance on projects and fostering professional development

What we’re looking for

•Minimum of 4 actuarial exams passed
•1 to 4+ years of actuarial experience
•1 prior actuarial rotation
•Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
•Utilizes project management techniques to effectively organize tasks
•Builds effective relationships and can collaborate across team functions
•Initiates process improvements utilizing technology platforms
•Adapts to shifting priorities and meets firm deadlines
•Evaluates data trends and investigates inconsistencies as needed
•Basic understanding of statutory and GAAP reporting
•Experience with actuarial modeling software (i.e. ALFA, AXIS) a plus
•Dataiku, Tableau, and Teamwork experience desired but not required
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

The pay range for this position is $61,501 - $112,000 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees.  In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual.  Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
