The Role at a Glance
As the Model Risk and Governance (MRG) Actuary, working with all areas of risk and all lines of businesses, you will facilitate the continued development and implementation of the Lincoln Financial Group's MRG program. MRG is a team reporting to the Chief Risk Officer within the Investment and Risk Department.
The focus of this group is to deliver insightful, value-adding, actionable risk analytics and governance to drive business results. The MRG Actuary will assist in developing a model risk framework and performing critical second-line reviews of various models across the organization. You will contribute to the establishment of model risk methodologies for Lincoln Financial with an emphasis on enhancing our Model Inventory, prioritizing model testing, and preparing Lincoln Financial Group for emerging regulatory modeling.
Critical to the success of this role is the ability to build strong, trusted partnerships with model owners and operators. MRG depends on these partnerships in order to ensure transparent communication of the risk profiles of company models. The MRG Actuary will develop an important relationship with leaders in a particular business unit in order to build familiarity with those models and construct appropriate testing regimens. The MRG Actuary will gain valuable leadership skills in partnering with junior staff to execute model reviews, and in discussing MRG review progress with senior ERM staff.

What you'll be doing
- Develops an expert opinion on the calculation methods and governance procedures embedded in various company models
- Establishes effective working relationships throughout the organization, both at the corporate level and within the businesses
- Assists in the calculation and implementation of risk appetite, which incorporates inforce and new business projections across a variety of market scenarios and business sensitivities
- Participates or leads workgroups by evaluating issues and problems of strategic significance to Lincoln Financial Group, especially via risk appetite
- Consults with Investments and Risk leaders on strategic and risk related issues and problems
- Facilitates model risk assessment discussions and analyses with risk groups throughout the organization
- Helps identify, measure and communicate model risk issues
- In conjunction with other risk management areas in the lines of businesses, helps develop, implement, monitor, and manage model risk mitigation programs for the enterprise
- Researches and prepares briefings on status of key projects and initiatives to senior leaders
- Provides research and data analysis support and coordinates special projects
- Acts as a subject matter expert on current and emerging industry issues
- Implements process improvements, consistency, governance, controls, and oversight
- Assists in the development of risk methodologies for Lincoln Financial based on actuarial and capital markets/economic principles
- Develops robust capabilities for an end to end view on risks at the company
- Helps to facilitate transition from existing approaches to newer approaches, and overcomes barriers to mindset change
What we’re looking for
Educational:
- Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in math, business or other quantitative field
- Highly desirable:
- FSA and/or Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst designation
- Advanced degree in financial engineering
- PhD level degree in a quantitative field
- FRM/PRM/CQF designations
- CFA designation
Experience:
- At least 8 years of financial analysis, engineering, capital markets, modeling, planning and forecasting
- Relevant experience in life insurance industry and actuarial training
- Relevant experience with valuation modeling and related governance procedures
- Knowledge of techniques and tools in market, credit and operational risk management
- Strong communication skills, ability to tailor message at the level of the recipient is required
- Working knowledge of quantitative investment/derivative strategies and risk management desirable
- Ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly, both internally and externally, with strong written/verbal communications and excellent presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, engaging, approachable, with the ability to influence
- High energy, self-motivated, with a high level of self-awareness
- Critical thinker with an ability to analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or strategy
- Understands the interdependencies of how people and organizations function, and can negotiate through complex political situations effectively
- Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
- Demonstrated excellent relationship management skills with internal clients; proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches to driving client-focused solutions which also benefits the company’s top and bottom lines
- Ability to understand Lincoln Financial Group’s internal and external customers and address their needs
- Computer skills:
- Proficient with ALFA or similar projection software systems
- Tableau, Dataiku, SAS or other data management packages

Pay Range: $102,301 - $184,500
Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
