General Purpose of Job

This position will provide subject matter expertise and direction on complex projects/initiatives involving multiple/cross-functional resources in the design and implementation of innovative data science solutions to support the achievement of business goals. They will act as a lead in the research and implementation of best in class advanced data science approaches, process automation, and tooling to provide meaningful data insights to business leadership.

The Role at a Glance

This role will be a member of a small team in Corporate Finance supporting financial data environments and interfaces covering specific business areas in Finance (Investment operations, Actuarial, EPM data, Financial reporting, etc)  This data scientist will be an independent contributor supporting a growing area in finance for data analysis and insights. 
•    This individual will be focused on analyzing complex data to understand underlying processes.   
•    Provides input into strategy, analysis methods, and tool selection.  Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge. 
•    Resource will be responsible for initially supporting a large scale implementation with financial data and analyzing specific use cases to identify opportunities for machine learning, visualization, and data wrangling - identifying data trends and insights.  
•    Working with peer team members and data scientists, this resource will act as one of the key process expert

What you'll be doing

o    Perform advanced analytics techniques to mine unstructured data
o    Understand large database mining tools and statistical languages utilized to efficiently build approaches and execute on analytical use cases. 
o    Leverage tools and resources to plan, evaluate, and execute strategic initiatives. 
o    Proficiency in the entire predictive modeling life cycle - from exploratory data analysis to data cleansing to Feature engineering to model building and validation, operationalization and scalability of scientific techniques and establishing decision strategies. 
o    Hands on experience developing supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms (regression, decision trees, random forest, neural networks, NLP, feature selection/ reduction, clustering, parameter tuning, etc) 
o    Experience in projects involving large scale, multi-dimensional databases, complex business infrastructure, and cross functional teams. Two to four successfully launched ML projects would be ideal. 
o    Demonstrated programming skills in Python, SQL, Spark, etc
o    Hands on experience on using AWS framework and cloud querying tools.  
o    Exposure to deep learning applications and tools is a plus 
o    Experience in the financial insurance domain and familiarity with financial models are highly desirable. 
o    Ability to partner closely with a diverse set of business collaborators to identify needs and deliver AI/ML solutions.  
o    Ability and willingness to step in where needed in data management teams - for all data analysis needs. 
o    Managing analytics projects from start to finish (data integration, analysis, reporting).
o    Working closely with the team leads to solve statistical business problems.
o    Developing and coding new algorithms to meet specific business needs.
o    Carrying out statistical research, prototyping new systems, and finding new ways of gathering, cleaning, and analyzing data.
o    Managing, maintaining, and developing the organization’s data platform.
o    Consulting with internal and external teams to determine their ongoing business needs, and to find solutions to them.
o    Actively working to identify improvements to internal processes, to improve conversions, revenue, ROI (or other relevant metrics).
o    Ability to lead teams in researching or solving business-critical problems.
o    Ability to understand data metadata management practices
o    Ability to clearly articulate thoughts and ideas and adjust communicate based on audience
o    Ability to leverage previous experience to consider a variety of alternative to arrive at a timely, practical and effective solution to resolve business problems.
o    Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work with business partners to design and execute priorities and project goals. 
o    Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle shifting priorities
o    Demonstrated understanding of overall data models, data relationships, mapping lineage and business rules, 
o    Experience with Accounting, Finance, and EPM system implementations / data

What we’re looking for

o    3-5 Years of experience in the Insurance Finance industry (Actuarial preferred) that aligns with the specific responsibilities of this position
o    4+ years prior work experience as a data scientist
o    Practical knowledge in python machine learning and data visualization 
o    Practical knowledge in data ETL such as working with data loading from SQL, SCV, JSON, Excel, etc and Data Wrangling / cleaning
o    Perform advanced analytics techniques to mine unstructured data

o    4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in data science (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)
o    4+ years of experience in data mining, data analysis, data management, data governance, data stewardship, or data quality at a financial institution or in another highly regulated industry. 
o    Deep knowledge of visualization tools (tableau, PowerBI, Quicksight) 
o    Demonstrated ability to be innovative and an aptitude to drive and accept change.
o    Demonstrates proficiency with data warehousing and management reporting projects/initiatives
o    Demonstrated strong critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment and meet deadlines.
o    Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong partnerships with business and IT.
o    Demonstrated experience in collaborating with business and IT to assess business need, identify solutions to solve for business problems
o    Proven experience successfully working across stakeholder groups, including internal team, technology, and functional & Business partners. 
o    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pay Range: $87,700 - $159,900 

 

Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees.  In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual.  Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
