The Role at a Glance
As a Sr Consultant National Accounts Group Underwriter, you will provide subject matter expertise and direction on complex Underwriting projects and initiatives. You will independently assess complex financial risks related to insurance products, determine price at which LFG accepts risks, alter coverage plans/levels, and bind LFG in transactions for insurance products. You will determine whether to accept or reject a risk based on their analysis of the customers information.
What you'll be doing
- Reviews complex new business and renewal requests for coverage(s) for all product lines in the National segment 5000+ lives.
- Adds complex amendments/ACRs for their assigned lines of coverage and segment(s).
- Adheres to departmental and compliance documentation & reporting requirements.
- Analyzes complex customer data & information to independently determine the price, within a wider range of authority, at which to accept the risks posed by sales.
- Analyzes financial health, performance, operations, and personnel levels of customers to determine if additional safeguards or conditions should be included in pricing and risk assessment.
- Binds LFG in financial transactions within their scope of authority by committing LFG to provide insurance coverage at their determined rates.
- Contributes to materials and/or conducts training on underwriting guidelines & procedures.
- Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives.
- Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit.
- Independently determines if requests for coverage should be rejected based on their risk assessment.
- Independently prepares and determines complex coverage & pricing proposals, renewals, amendments through analysis of customer data & information received from quote requests from brokers & marketing representatives.
- Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
- Meets with brokers and sales teams to develop relationships, discuss target markets and potential pricing approaches to expand market share.
- Negotiates complex benefits & pricing on non-experienced rated & experienced rated cases with brokers & representatives.
- Participates in and/or leads other assignments and/or projects as needed during peak and off-season.
- Provides direction on complex assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capability.
- Provides direction to operational teams to ensure accurate preparation of plans with appropriate coverage level(s) & pricing.
- Provides mentoring and guidance on Core underwriting; acts as a subject matter expert in 2 or more lines of coverage and/or customer segment.
- Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects.
- Recommends potential modifications in complex coverage(s) and/or coverage levels on insurance products based on customer's price range.
What we’re looking for
Must-Haves:
- 4 Year degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's)
- 7+ Years of group life and/or disability underwriting experience directly aligned to the specific responsibilities for this role.

The pay range for this position is $90,300 - $164,700 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
