The Role

The VP, of Advertising and Sponsorship provides strategic leadership to achieve key business objectives for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. S/he will lead Lincoln Financial’ s advertising and sponsorship programs, including the strategic approach, research, creative development, and tactical execution of consumer advertising, sponsorships, primarily Lincoln’s partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles and naming rights to Lincoln Financial Field, social media and additional corporate marketing initiatives.  In addition, this role will partner with the business unit marketing departments to develop strategy and execute business-to-business (B2B) advertising campaigns.




  • Leads the development of the advertising and sponsorship strategy for the Lincoln Financial Group brand with the goal of building awareness, familiarity and favorability among Lincoln's core consumer and business-to-business target audiences.
  • Oversees the development and management of Lincoln's social media program. Collaborates with stakeholders in Marketing as well as business unit partners to align and integrate social media programs as part of larger brand and marketing campaigns.
  • Oversees advertising-related research programs, including quantitative and qualitative measures that help shape the overall advertising strategies as well as provide assessment on the brand's health.
  • Develops an effective media strategy that leverages traditional and non-traditional channels (e.g. social, digital, content) to ensure that target audiences are reached efficiently and deliver upon the goals for the brand.
  • Manages agency relationships (agency of record, media planning/buying, digital, social media and sponsorship agencies) to ensure that the advertising strategy and execution are strategically linked to the overall enterprise objectives.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders in Marketing in each business as well as business unit partners to understand overall marketing issues and ensure that consumer advertising programs are aligned and integrated with overall marketing strategy.  Provide support for Business Marketing B2B advertising programs, including access to Lincoln’s creative agency where appropriate and coordination of the media buys.
  • Champions and leads the sponsorship of Lincoln Financial Field and partnership with  the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles  to achieve objectives around building brand awareness/equity nationally, building key business relationships through hospitality and exclusive access programs and generating employee pride in the partnership and goodwill in the community.
  • Manages the corporate advertising team to help each member acquire and develop the appropriate skills and critical project-based experiences to foster their continued professional development, including individual development plans and regular coaching for each team member  As needed, acquire top talent for the roles defined on the team and regularly assess the organization design to ensure optimal achievement of team objectives.
  • Leads the advertising creation and execution process with direct management of partner agencies to ensure strong collaboration and integration across advertising and other communications channels.
  •  Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with executive/senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
  • Leads the identification, development, and implementation of strategic process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the team, business unit, and/or the organization for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Leads and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Leads, establishes and implements priorities, performance goals and objectives to achieve key business results for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Guides and evaluates departmental performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Provides thought leadership and functional expertise to internal/external stakeholders for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Contributes to business unit/operational and enterprise strategy creation for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Builds organizational capability within his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Leads/executes approved strategy for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.






  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)




  • 12+ Years of advertising, marketing, and / or agency management experience (required)
  • 5+ Years of senior management experience in a large complex organization including influencing senior management and critical stakeholder responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement processes improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully hire, retain, develop and coach staff via a culture of real-time performance feedback, with ability to build both technical and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior/executive management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
  • Understands the interdependencies of how people and organizations function, and can negotiate through complex political situations effectively
  • Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
  • Demonstrated excellent relationship management skills with internal clients; proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches to driving client-focused solutions which also benefits the company’s top and bottom lines
