We’re excited to bring on a VP, Corporate risk actuary to our newly expanding Chief Risk Office. In this role, you will influence strategy, aggregate metrics and risk exposures, and set governance standards across all lines of business.  The ideal candidate will be able to cross business lines and functional areas, show technical prowess, and communicate complicated topics to the executive level to drive action.

This position will provide subject matter expertise and direction on complex projects/initiatives within the Chief Risk Office, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Risk Management. S/he will develop and perform complex actuarial analysis and provide recommendations for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. S/he will lead actuarial projects and proactively identify challenges and resolutions. The focus of this group is to deliver insightful, added-value, actionable risk analytics and governance to drive business results. S/he will be responsible for support and oversight of all business unit-based valuations, product development and pricing, assumption governance, and expanding inforce analytical capabilities.
 

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the development and upgrade of the quality of actuarial investigations and evaluation of the financial well-being of the enterprise.
  • Lead in the development of risk/return pricing standards and risk management methodologies based on actuarial and capital markets/economic principles.
  • Partner on strategic reinsurance opportunities and analysisAssist in the review of new product strategies, development, design, pricing, and implementation.
  • Leverage Economic Capital (EC) and other risk metrics across all risks and helps develops analytics to influence strategy such as potential ALM, investing activities, and management actions
  • Partner on the development and expansion of the enterprise model and analytics.
  • Implement process improvements, consistency, governance, controls, and oversight.
  • Develop knowledge about company operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies.
  • Continually look for opportunities to add value to the enterprise by partnering with the businesses on strategic projects.
  • Establish effective working relationships throughout the organization, both at the corporate level and within the businesses.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on all product lines in terms of product knowledge, modeling approach, and reserve requirements, and partners with other areas of the organization regarding analysis of industry evolving topics.
  • Assist in the establishment of financial risk methodologies for Lincoln Financial with an emphasis on developing financial metrics, standards and frameworks based on different lenses (actuarial, capital markets) for analyzing risk-return trade-offs.
  • Extend from existing traditional actuarial accounting (statutory, GAAP) metrics to economic/capital market principles-based metrics & tools to evaluate risk return trade-offs in core decisions (e.g. product development, investment management, asset liability management, capital management).
  • Stays current on industry developments and drives toward solutions when appropriate
  • Researches and prepares briefings on status of key projects and initiatives to senior leaders
  • Participates or leads workgroups by evaluating issues and problems of strategic significance

 

Execution

  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) or responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments  in current and future solutions.
  • Leads actuarial projects and proactively identifies challenges and resolutions.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on actuarial models and assumption development and suggests new ways of managing risk.
  • Monitors and analyzes developments in actuarial techniques, laws and regulations applicable to company operations, and competitive developments in the marketplace.

What we're looking for:

  • 12+ years of experience in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • 5+ years management experience    
  • Undergraduate degree    
  • FSA designation or ASA designation with substantial additional years actuarial experience
  • Other advanced designations a plus – CFA, CERA, FRM
  •  Advanced knowledge of insurance, investments, and enterprise risks.
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of STAT and GAAP requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance and annuity mechanics and product strategies.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and propose solutions for a range of technical actuarial issues
  • Demonstrates strong project management leadership skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
  • Proficiency and desire to leverage emerging data science, predictive analytics, and data visualization capabilities 

 

 Computer skills:

  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with actuarial valuation and projection software systems 
  • Familiarity with VBA, C++, C#, JAVA, or other programming languages a plus
  •  Access, SAS, or other data management packages
  • o    Tableau and Dataiku or similar packages
     

Experience

12+ Years of experience years in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 5+ years of management, strategy, and influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience (Required )

Work Arrangement

Hybrid/Home : Employees will work from home generally three days each week and come into a Lincoln office on a schedule their manager will help set, following any applicable in-office training period determined by their manager.
