The Role at a Glance:

As the VP, Reinsurance, you will provide highly specialized expertise and thought leadership to strategically achieve key reinsurance business objectives. In this role, you will lead and oversee the analysis and reporting of all reinsurance transactions and ensure they are in compliance with regulations and accounting standards. Additionally, you will develop reinsurance strategies regarding new or emerging regulations and accounting standards and provide highly specialized expertise to senior stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:

  • Maintaining knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends, assessing the impact, and collaborating with executive/senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
  • Leading the identification, development, and implementation of strategic process improvements that improve quality across the team, business unit, and/or the organization.
  • Leading and enhancing organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives
  • Providing highly specialized expertise and thought leadership to internal/external stakeholders 
  • Contributing to business unit/operational and enterprise strategy creation.
  • Building organizational capability within your assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Leading/executing approved strategy for your assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Contributing to the strategy development for highly complex reinsurance trends/issues/concerns.
  • Providing thought leadership and advises senior management on reinsurance strategies and risks.
  • Monitoring and overseeing existing reserve structures and reinsurance transactions, which includes the oversight of special purpose reinsurance entities.
  • Leading the design and execution of new reserve financing & transactions to support the financing needs of clients.
  • Partnering with key internal stakeholders to ensure the design of reserve financing structures are in alignment with key business objectives.
  • Analyzing new and emerging complex standards & regulations and their impact on the enterprise.
  • Developing strategic plans to mitigate identified reinsurance risks and implement new standards.
  • Directing the relationships with third-party reinsures of existing and new financial reinsurance transactions and ensuring identified issues are resolved in a collaborative manner.
  • Providing thought leadership and functional expertise for the development, analysis, and design of actuarial reinsurance scenarios.
  • Overseeing the identification, mitigation, and resolution of financial risks related to reinsurance activities.
  • Developing and maintaining reinsurance policies and procedures to ensure internal controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Participating in industry organizations, groups and/or forums to obtain information on new or emerging reinsurance standards, regulations, and trends.
  • Participating in M&A initiatives as needed.
  • Leading, conducting, or participating in reinsurance projects.

What we're looking for:


  • 12+ Years of experience in Finance that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position. 
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
  • Demonstrated experience as a thought leader.  Will be able to demonstrate being sought after for advice, counsel, and judgment.
  • Advocates effectively, readily command attention and respect in groups as demonstrated by people listening to and getting on board with initiatives 
  • Ability to effectively resolve difficult disputes and business challenges using highly refined functional, partnering and leadership skills. 
  • Understands the interdependencies of how people and organizations function and can negotiate through complex political situations effectively. 
  • Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among senior/executive management, colleagues, and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior/executive management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and business plans to deliver and exceed expected business objectives and results. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret both internal and external documents such as general media/publications, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.
